Quake Death Toll Now Up to 201
The records of death from the 7.2-magnitude quake that struck Central Visayas on Oct. 15 went beyond the 200 mark on Friday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
The NDRRMC update, as of 6 am on Friday, the death toll went up to 201, with the latest fatalities from Cebu and Bohol provinces, Gma news online said.
NDRRMC reported the most recent fatalities included Genaro Manatad and Gliseria Colatse from Bohol; and Efrena Rosario from Cebu. Of the recorded 201 fatalities, 187 were from Bohol, 13 from Cebu, and one from Siquijor.
Records also added at least 720 injured and 10 still missing.
As of 5 a.m., the NDRRMC said at least 2,719 aftershocks had been recorded, of which 71 were felt, Gma news online reported.
The council said the quake had affected 631,605 families or 3,158,869 people in 1,494 villages in 59 towns and six cities in six provinces. Of these, 15,374 families or 82,106 people are staying in 151 evacuation centers.
Reported damage to property was estimated at P1.426 billion, including P1.227 billion in Bohol and P197.401 million in Cebu, and P1.45 million in Siquijor, Gma news online said.
A 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Central Visayas last October 15, with the province of Bohol being badly devastated, with some of its historical churches crumbled to the ground.
