Talisay Dads Approve Seniors’ ‘Birthday Cash’
The Talisay City Council session on Monday approved a measure for the inclusion of the birthday cash gifts to senior citizens in the 2014 annual budget.
“Whereas, Article XV, Section 4 of the Constitution declares that it is the duty of the family to take care of its elderly members while the State may design programs of social security for them,” read the measure sponsored by Councilors Val Ylanan and Socrates Fernandez. The council had agreed to give P500 to birthday celebrant-senior citizen.
”Whereas, for living long and aging well, senior citizens are considered role models for the future of aging and are worthy of emulation and public recognition not only by other senior citizens but also by the younger generation who may be inspired by and aspire for a long span of life by adopting a healthy lifestyle,” further read Ylanan and Socrates’ resolution.
The council expedited the approval of four proposed resolutions on Monday as they were using the session hall, wherein most council secretary’s workers were still jittery while inside the building, following reports that it was still not safe to stay there. In less than 30 minutes, after approving the three resolutions and referring one to the Committee on Laws, the council adjourned.
