Talisay Enforces Anti-Plastic Bag Law
After two years since its approval, the Talisay City government has implemented the “Anti-Plastic Bag Ordinance” to its shopping malls and grocery centers.
City administrator John Eyre de los Reyes said it was last month when Mayor Johnny delos Reyes issued an executive order for the implementation of the said ordinance, which was shelved since its approval in February 2011.He did not offer a reason why the previous administration failed to implement it.
“Dugay na ni nga ordinance pero wap-a na-implement. Karon, gisugdan na ni mayor,” said delos Reyes.
For now, however, Delos Reyes admitted that not all establishments have followed the ordinance, after they asked to be given an extension as they still have several stocks of plastic bags.
The mayor has to also “consider” their requiest, but by next year, “we will implement this law in full blast,” he said.
The Anti-Plastic Bag Ordinance was approved by the previous City Council in February 2011. It was meant to eradicate the use of plastic as it was believed it had caused the flooding in some areas.
