Camotes Island Airport Expansion in the Works
Cebu Province government plans to expand Camotes Island Airport and seeks to buy a plot of land from Catmon Rural Bank in Northern Poblacion, San Francisco town in Camotes Island.
After an inspection of the airport, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said that the Cebu Provincial government is planning to expand the runway of the airport to accommodate more airplanes and passengers in the future.
In a meeting with Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Armida Caguitla owner of Catmon Rural Bank, said that the bank is ready to cooperate with the Cebu Provincial government.
Caguitla said that they are willing to sell the land to the Cebu Provincial government to help in the expansion of Camotes Island Airport.
Senator Robinhood Padilla said that he will support the Cebu Provincial government in its efforts to expand the said airport.
Padilla said that he will procure a budget to help in the construction of the airport next year.
The Senator and Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco visited the airport last month during the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo in Camotes Island.
Once construction is finished, the 1.8-kilometer airport is said to be able to accommodate private and small airplanes with 70 to 80 passengers. (ASC)
