Video calls have become a normal part of our lives, especially during the height of the pandemic. While meetings or chat chatting with relatives on video messaging platforms is fairly a new concept to us, a new way to communicate may soon replace this — blurring the line between real and virtual communication.

It’s like what we see in science fiction movies, where you can communicate with someone like he/she is in front of you. The company Proto Inc. is the world’s first holographic communications platform with its own hardware, software, and app ecosystem.

Proto Inc. aims to revolutionize how we can communicate online, bringing us closer to each other more than ever.

“We want to become a solution so incorporated to our daily lives, that life before Proto becomes hard to imagine. We want to be the leaders of the technology that changed the way we do business, keep in touch and conceive entertainment.”

Proto uses its patented 7-foot hologram system called Proto M that produces a “lifelike” live stream video of someone from far away.

The system needs a wifi connection, a camera, and white background to enable the device.

The company made collaborations with Spotify, Walmart, and Seat Geek — which together with the Dallas Cowboys showcased the potential of holographic communication to businesses.

Recently, our very own Manny Pacquiao was able to use the technology during the promotion of his fight with DK Yoo. Pacquiao and Yoo were able to do the “staredown” even though Pacquiao is not present at the venue.

Moreover, Proto’s potential in changing the medical world as we know of. We may be able to see a future where with holographic communication, doctors would be able to check patients even though they are in the other part of the world. The possibilities of holograms in the medical industry are endless.

With how fast our technology is evolving, maybe in the future, we would not need to use a 7-foot device to conjure holographic images anymore, just a wristwatch will do. (ASC)
