PNP Eyes Removal of Recycled Crime SocMed Posts
The Philippine National Police (PNP) seeks to have recycled social media posts pertaining to crimes removed.
This comes as crime social media posts have been rampant on different platforms in recent weeks, sparking public fear.
PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) validated social media posts on crimes and found that most videos about attempted rape and abductions occurred years ago and are just being recycled, according to ACG chief Brig. Gen. Joel Doria.
“The videos are being recycled while others are edited pictures that are posted to probably gain followers or to depict a picture of an unstable government. We have already ordered our men to step up to the challenge to ensure that malicious/fake videos that are not real are taken down in order not to mislead people into believing it,” he added.
Meanwhile, PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin has ordered every police unit in the country to strengthen false information circulation monitoring.
Azurin made an emphasis to monitor false information that may cause panic.
The PNP chief also called the attention of the public to be mindful of social media posts, saying that unverified information may lead to “public disturbance, panic, and confusion.”
Meanwhile, the PNP is urging the public to report any incident to the police so that they can immediately respond to urgent matters. (GFB)
