Talisay to Enforce ‘Plastic Ban’
The Talisay City government is set to ban the use of plastic bags on September 1.
Mayor Johnny Delos Reyes signed the City Ordinance banning the use of plastic bags in all of the city’s commercial establishments. The mayor said a task force will be created to ensure that this law will be implemented starting September 1 this year.
On February 2011, the City Council approved the Anti-Plastic Bag Ordinance of then Councilor Rodi Cabigas, who chaired the council committee on Infrastructure which covers the city’s commercial shops. Cabigas then said the purpose of the ordinance is to minimize the city’s waste, which is blamed for the clogging of its drainage systems. For some reason, the last administration, however, failed to enforce the said law.
