Cebu City Jeepney Routes to Revived
Cebu City government has reopened all traditional city routes including routes that carry passengers to and from nearby cities on Thursday, May 27, 2021.
Cebu City Mayor Labella issued Executive Order 131 to open traditional jeepney routes to satisfy the demand for public transportation in Cebu City and neighboring cities.
Labella urges jeepney operators to strictly follow health protocols as Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJ) operations are slowly returning to normal.
“While we allow the resumption of PUJ operations, akong giawhag ang atong jeepney operators (I urge our jeepney operators) to continue following our health protocols to manage our COVID-19 situation,” Labella said.
Labella also said that the Cebu City Transportation Office (CTTO) will monitor and manage the traffic situation and ensure that health safety protocols are followed.
The new EO will also create a task force in coordination with CCTO to approve the applications and permits of PUJ operators who are planning to resume their operations.
Drivers will undergo an orientation and training to ensure health safety protocols are followed — after which they would be issued identification cards. (ASC)
