‘FixMyBarangay’ to Extend Services Soon
The FixMyBarangay(FMB) project of the Cebu City Government, which is now in the stage of trial and error, will soon expanded its services to the rest of the 80 barangays in Cebu City.
In their press briefing last August 2, 2013, Management Information and Computer Systems (MICS) Chief Conrado Ordesta III, bared that the City government, through the Department, took the lead in empowering constituents through its ‘Fix My Barangay’ project–-an SMS or text message fault-reporting service which was first launched in two barangays.
The pilot project has been running in two barangays in Cebu City – Luz and Basak San Nicolas.
FMB is a site to help people view, discuss, or report local problems to the city department concerned. The pilot project allows constituents to report the problem by SMS (or by dropping into the barangay center).
The FixMyBarangay pilot project focused mainly on the problem over potholes (and similar road surface problems) and defective or broken streetlights.
Problems sent by SMS are initially handled by the barangay staff – they’ll confirm the problem and report it to the relevant department automatically. Once it’s in the department’s problem-tracking system, they’ll work on the problem right away. (Ann Margaret Ylanan – UV Masscom Intern)
