Labella Appeals for GCQ
Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella appeals to the Interagency Taskforce on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to place Cebu City in General Community Quarantine (GCQ) on June 1 to June 15.
The IATF-EID announced that the whole Central Visayas, except Cebu CIty, will be placed on GCQ while Cebu City will be placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) as the city was classified by the agency as a high-risk urbanized city.
Labella said that Cebu City may have a high number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, but it has a low death rate of 1.2 percent, the lowest in the country.
As of May 28, 2020, Cebu City has 2,055 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 25 deaths.
The total number of recovered patients in the city is 471.
Labella believes that placing Cebu City under GCQ is a reasonable step but in the case with areas with a high number of COVID-19 cases will be on lockdown. (ASC)
