Bohol Doc, 2 Med-Techs Test Positive for Covid-19
The Department of Health (DOH)-Region 7 (Central Visayas) on Tuesday said the province of Bohol has three new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 — a physician and two medical technologists from a public hospital.
DOH-7 regional director Jaime Bernadas said the three healthcare workers are asymptomatic and now isolated in Cebu while the DOH-7 conducts contact tracing.
The doctor and two medical technologists from the DOH-run Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) arrived in Cebu early last week. They traveled from Bohol to Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental before going to Cebu for a training on Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing.
Governor Arthur Yap said Boholanos are waiting for the GCGMH “to brief the public regarding the status of their medical personnel and employees.”
The provincial government “fully supports the GCGMH and values its partnership as we protect the people of Bohol from the Covid-19,” he said.
Bohol now has four confirmed Covid-19 cases. Last week, a repatriated overseas Filipino worker (OFW) also tested positive of coronavirus.
Yap assured that the medical team in the province can manage the positive cases and prevent local transmission of Covid-19.
He said with the isolation facilities and patient care centers they have established, coupled with the preventive measures that the city government has put in place, they can prevent contagion among the residents.
“If we can test, trace and treat, then we can show others and ourselves, that we can live under the new normal. Businesses can return, religious services can be allowed, and we can once again accept domestic air and sea travelers,” Yap said. (PNA)
