Comelec Receives 22,478 Registrations for October Elections
The Commission on Elections had accepted 22,478 applications for new voters and for those who wish to transfer to other precincts in Cebu City for the forthcoming Barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on October 28.
The records show that from July 22 to 31, the Comelec south district headed by Election Officer Edwin Cadungog had accepted 13,094 total registrations and 2,803 of it are transferees from another municipality or city.
Meanwhile, the Comelec north District under Election Officer Marchel Sarno also had 9,384 registrations accepted during the 10-day registration period.
Cadungog said it is already abnormal that the number of transferees had reached to almost 3,000 only from the south district. Days from now the Comelec will conduct an inclusion and exclusion proceedings of the names of voters if there will be complainants.
On the last night of registration, the filled forms of those who did not finish the last two steps —biometrics data capturing and application number assignment— were collected by Comelec and assisting police officials as instructed by Sarno.
Even if the Cebu City Council had asked the Comelec to extend the days of registration, the Comelec-Manila had already announced that there will be no more extension of voters registration.
