Pnoy Declares August 9, Regular Holiday
President Benigno Aquino has finally signed Proclamation No. 629 declaring August 9, Friday, as a regular holiday nationwide, marking the end of Ramadan.
“Now, therefore, I, Benigno S. Aquino III, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday, 9 August 2013, as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan). The Eid’l Fitr Prayer shall be performed depending on the result of the moon-sighting activity on 7 August 2013,” the proclamation read.
The public had been waiting for Aquino’s proclamation as without it August 9 would remain just an ordinary working day. August 9 is just among the holidays this month.
Earlier, Malacañang announced August 26, National Heroes Day, as a regular holiday and August 21, Ninoy Aquino Day, a special non-working day.
In Cebu, August 6 is a special non-working holiday as per RA 8952 an Act amending RA 7698 declaring August 6 of every year a special non-working holiday in the province of Cebu including its highly-urbanized cities like Lapu-Lapu, Danao and Toledo.
