MCIA Implements Strict Measures Against Coronavirus
The Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has started implementing the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (nCoV) after a 5-year old child from China was admitted to a hospital in Cebu City and reportedly tested positive for a new coronavirus strain.
nCoV or the “2019-nCoV” is a cluster of pneumonia of an unknown cause first detected in Wuhan City in China.
The whole MCIA community including GMR MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC), Bureau of Quarantine and other stakeholders announced the precautionary measures on Wednesday, January 22.
Intensified thermal scanning is now being implemented to tighten the monitoring of arriving passengers in MCIA especially from China.
All airlines were also required to conduct an in-flight announcement prior to landing at MCIA telling passengers to submit themselves to the Bureau of Quarantine if they experience flu-like symptoms.
Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are being installed in all aerobridges and arrival corridors with passengers being asked to use these facilities. Liquid disinfectant will be sprayed in the aerobridges prior to each flight arrivals. Medical teams were also stationed at arrival areas.
All airport staff are also required to wear masks for precautionary measures. (MLC)
