MCIAA Implements Measures For Passengers’ Comfort and Safety Amid Taal Volcano Activity
The Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) together with GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) and other stakeholders implemented measures to ensure the well-being of passengers affected by flight cancellations due to the recent Taal Volcano’s unrest activity in Batangas. Measures include adequate communication and planning to optimize the airport’s capacity.
Authorities also stocked up supplies in Terminal 1 and 2 for all passengers and some retail stores also offered discounts to stranded passengers. Bottled water and food items were also provided by GMCAC.
25 domestic flights to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and 1 international flight bound for Dubai were canceled by the authorities while 4 international flights bound for NAIA were diverted to MCIA Terminal 2.
MCIA provided contingency parking spaces for the four diverted aircraft. The diverted flights were accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis provided there are aircraft parking facilities available.
Emergency flights in instances such as fuel shortage and medical emergencies were also prioritized. At the same time, MCIA ensured the available capacity is maintained for its scheduled and planned flights. (MLC)
