Over 2 million pesos worth of 1,000-peso fake bills including counterfeit 100 US dollars were seized by police during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City Monday night.

Outgoing Cebu City Police Director Mariano Natuel said the fake bills were seized from Richard Uy, 65, who happened to have a pending case with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) – Region 7 for the same crime.

The raid yielded P2 million worth of crisp 1,000 peso and 100 US dollar bills, all counterfeit. Natuel said the amount is the biggest under his term as CCPO chief.

The raid stemmed from complaints received by police stations from different establishments. Natuel said they immediately conducted a surveillance to find out where those bills came from. Natuel revealed most of Uy’s customers would go to Malaysia to convert the fake bills into ringgit.

Computers and equipment believed to be used in the making of fake bills were also found in Uy’s place. The suspect is now detained at the CCPO pending charges to be leveled against him.
