“Basura Ko, Panginabuhian Ko”
The local government of Talisay City has launched the “Basura ko, panginabuhian ko”(My garbage, my living) program at the people’s hall of the Talisay City hall on September 16.
The primary goal of the program is to maintain cleanliness in different barangay in the city.
Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas personally invited all Talisaynons to take part of the said program.
“Ang ako lang, maghimo tag programa para ang mga katawhan nga gusto sad mutabang sa goberno (I wanted us to make a program for people who wanted to help the government),” Gullas said.
Improper garbage disposal is one of the main reason why flood sometimes become uncontrolled since it blocks certain drainage systems all throughout the city.
Residents of Talisay City can collect garbage anytime and turn it over to their respective barangay.
“Ang inyung basura nga mahatag pulihan nato nag bugas o di ba kaha sardinas didto sa barangay (We can give you rice or canned goods in every garbage you turn over),” Gullas said.
The mayor also challenged all schools, puroks and barangay to clean their respective areas since the local government will give them certain prizes.
“Awardan nato kinsa tong pinaka limpyo nga elementary school, pinaka limpyo nga high school, pinaka limpyo nga purok ug pinaka limpyo nga barangay (We will also give an award to the cleanest elementary school, high school, purok and barangay),” Gullas said.
The mayor strongly believes that by including schools into the challenge, students will be able to deliver the good news to their parents upon going home.
On the city’s charter day on January next year, winners will be revealed and will be given various prizes. (MLC)
