BRT Route Expanded
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said that the route of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) has expanded and improved where it will cover some parts of Talisay City.
DOTr Undersecretary (Usec.) Mark de Leon clarified that there is no realignment on the route of the BRT.
From the original 21.58 kilometers (km) plan, the new BRT route has expanded to 39.88 km and the system has improved the reliability and coverage of service through its continuous extension of its feeder services.
Usec. de Leon said that the phase 1 of the BRT system will be partially operational before December 2021.
Phase 1 will cover the 13.83km line from the South Road Properties (SRP) to IT park.
Part of the phase 1 also includes services from IT park to Talamban, Talisay to Mambaling and Talisay to SRP.
Usec. de Leon added that the DOTr also wants to adopt a “multi-basket of solutions” in the implementation of the Intermodal and Integrated Transport Project for Cebu.
For phase 1, DOTr assured that there will be two lanes per direction provided for motorists.
Usec. de Leon also clarified that the fare of the IITS project will be comparable and reasonable with the existing transport mode.
Secretary Michael Dino on his end said that the government is not giving any preference to the business sector in SRP but is only implementing what the original plan was and is improving it.
DOTr Assistant Secretary Eymard Eje also said that Secretary Arthur Tugade wanted to give a more comfortable life to the Cebuanos starting with safe, secure, and comfortable travel options as envisioned by the IITS project. (MLC)
