Talisay Mayor to Slash Down Casual Workers
With Talisay City’s contractual or job order (JO) employees swelling to over 2,000, Mayor Johnny delos Reyes said he will reduce it starting next month.
City spokesperson Vince Monterde said starting August 1, Delos Reyes will only hire 1,100 or a maximum of 1,200 JOs to work for the city hall. Monterde said this may tantamount to losing some of the mayor’s supporters but quoting Delos Reyes, he said the mayor is bent on doing that whatever the outcome would be.
The mayor’s move came after Budget Officer Edgardo Mabunay warned him that hiring more employees would hurt their annual budget. The city pays from P220-P300 per day per hired JO, that it was even rumored that the city would slash down the salary to P175 per day to accommodate more workers. Most of these workers were supporters of the mayor and his partymates last election.
Moreover, Monterde said that by August, the opposition councilors will only be allowed to endorse 40 JOs each, while those on the administration, 75. The vice mayor and the mayor will have 100 and 500 workers, respectively.
