OPAV to Modernize Cebu
The Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) pushes for urban development to modernize Cebuanos’ mobility.
The OPAV along with Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (PAV) Michael Dino himself had a meeting with the consultant of the Egis Group and different government agency officials to tackle the monorail system in Cebu.
Egis group is a French engineering group who builds infrastructures and transport systems.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Assistant Secretary Eymard Eje attended the meeting and shared his experience on the upcoming Mindanao Railway Project.
Officials from the Land Transportation Office in Central Visayas (LTO)-7 and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-7 were also present during the said meeting.
The monorail system is the backbone of the Integrated Intermodal Transport System (IITS) in Metro Cebu.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary Mark Richmond de Leon said that the IITS will implement bikeways, intermodal terminals, park and drive facilities and walkways.
De Leon also said they are looking for other additional projects that can help motorists and pedestrians aside from projects to solve traffic congestion in Metro Cebu.
“We are not looking for a single solution to address traffic congestion as we all know there is no single bullet for this problem of congestion, it should be a basket of solutions,” Usec. de Leon said.
Usec. de Leon also revealed that the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is planned to be operational before the end of President Rodrigo Duterte’s term. (MLC)
