9 Ways to Take Care of Your Nails

Published

on

Your nails can tell so much about you. If you take care of your nails, their beauty will reflect on you. Here are tricks that will help you take care of your nails in just 9 simple ways.

1. Keep your nails short. Long nails are most likely to get damaged easily, especially when doing multiple tasks in the office or different chores at home.

2. Allow your nails to breathe. If you enjoy applying nail polish, allow your nails to breathe once in a while. Remove nail polish a week after application otherwise your nails will discolor and get brittle. If your nails are fragile, use non-acetone polish removers.

3. File your nails in one direction regularly. In between salon visits, file your nails at home using emery boards to keep the edges smooth. Do it in one direction to avoid splitting or cracking your nails.

4. Use gloves when doing the laundry or washing the dishes. Some laundry detergents are too harsh and may harm your nails and skin, so make sure you use rubber gloves when doing the laundry. It can also protect your nails from accidental chipping when running errands.

5. Use a different nail cutter for infected nail beds. This will help avoid infecting other healthy nails.

6. Keep your nails clean and moisturized. To maintain the healthiness of your nails, make it a habit to wash your hands and feet with mild soap. Moisturize with lotion after washing to keep them nourished.

7. Treat brittle nails accordingly. Brittle nails are caused by different factors, requiring different treatments. Fragile nails that are dehydrated are treated by drinking plenty of water and applying creams and oils that contain vitamin E, avocado oil, olive oil and shea butter. Creams that contain natural collagen also treat brittle nails by keeping them strong and healthy.

8. Eat foods rich in different vitamins and minerals. Nail health can be maintained by eating foods rich in vitamin A, C, E and a B complex containing biotin, as well as those rich in iron, zinc, calcium and niacin.

9. Immediately fix lifted nails. Nail lifting can cause fungus to grow and infect your nail beds, so make sure you immediately fix lifted nails by cutting the lift or using mending tape, cotton or patches.
