9 Cebu City Farmers Receive Award
Nine farmers from Cebu City received different awards given by the Cebu City Agriculture Department during the 83rd Cebu City charter day celebration on February 27 at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu City.
Maximo Survilla Jr. of Barangay Pung-ol Sibugay and Roger Alburo of Barangay Malubog received the cutflower category award; Samuel Tabares of Barangay Sudlon and Ainne Abacahan of Barangay Taptap received the grower category; Junrey Mabano of Barangay Kalunasa received the mango grower; Estela Labitad of Barangay Pamutan received the ornamental category; Cresencio Pardillo of Barangay Tabunan received the Agri-entrepreneur; Demetrio Gabato also from Barangay Tabunan received the livestock grower and Roemeo Telamo of Barangay Taptap received the corn grower award.
Different plaques of appreciation and a P10,000 cash were received by the mentioned farmers.
City Agriculturist Joelito Bacayon revealed that the awarding was not the first time for Cebu City to give recognition to the farmers. The recognition of farmers is now on its 10th year.
To date, almost 100 farmers were already given different awards and recognition by the Cebu City Government.
Bacayon also said that it is important for people to recognize the efforts of our farmers since they contribute a lot to our economy.
40% of Cebu City’s gross also comes from agricultural products. (MLC)
