66 Injured, 2 Hit by Stray Bullets During the Christmas and New Year Celebration in CV: DOH
The Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH 7) has reported 68 fireworks-related injuries in the region from December 21, 2022, to January 3, 2023.
Cebu Province has the highest cases of fireworks injuries in the region with 27 injuries followed by Negros Oriental with 10.
Meanwhile, Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City both have 9 fireworks injuries. DOH 7 also reported 2 stray bullets incident in Lapu-Lapu City.
Moreover, Bohol has 5 fireworks injuries, Mandaue City has 4, and Siquijor has 2.
No fireworks ingestion was reported from the said period.
According to reports, injuries from the “Lantaka or Boga” (an improvised cannon made from stacked cans or PVC pipes) were the majority cause of injuries followed by the Kwitis. (ASC)
