Sixty more barangays from nine municipalities and one component city in Cebu province were officially declared as drug-cleared by the Regional Oversight Committee (ROC) on Barangay Drug Clearing Operations at the Capitol Social Hall last June 19.

The latest drug-cleared barangays include 18 barangays from the municipality of Borbon, 17 barangays from the town of Tabogon, nine barangays from Alegria, four barangays each from the towns of Oslob and San Francisco, three barangays from Medellin, two barangays from the municipality of Samboan, and one barangay each from San Remigio, Sogod, and the City of Naga.

Earlier this year, the regional oversight committee already declared 185 barangays drug-cleared bringing it to a total of 245 or 22.8 percent of the 1,066 barangays in the province.

Gov. Hilario P. Davide III said one of the Provincial Government’s main priority is to continue building and strengthening partnerships with other agencies, and the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) towards a drug-free Cebu.

“Hinaut magpadayon inyong kakugi nga ma-maintain ang inyong status sa pagka-drug cleared (Hopefully, you will continue your efforts in maintaining the drug-cleared status of your barangays),” Davide told the local chief executives and the barangays captains present during the declaration.

With this, Davide also said that they are expecting more barangays to be drug-cleared before the end of the year.

Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO) Executive Director Carmen Remedios Durano said that several barangays all around the province are pre-validated, while some are to be validated onsite by the ROC.

The ROC is composed of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) 7, Department of Health (DOH) 7, Philippine National Police, and the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office.
