6 National Team Members To Join MVPSF Visayas Match On April 4-8

Six national golf team members have confirmed their participation in the 1st MVPSF Visayas Regional Match Play Championship on April 4 to 8 at the Cebu Country Club (CCC) here.

Boom Coscolluela, executive director of the National GolfAssociation of the Philippines (NAGP), organizer of the five-day tournament that is part of the PLDT National Amateur Golf Series 2016, said the national players who would play in Cebu were Rupert Zaragosa, Jelbert Gamolo, Jolo Timothy Magcalayo and Luigi MiguelGuerrero in the men’s division.

The women’s division will have Harmie Nicole Constantino and Jona Magcalayo.

Coscolluela said that with the national team members in the field and formidable golfers from Cebu and other regions, the level of competition had definitely gone higher.

Conscolluela said this was the first time the PLDT National Amateur Golf Series, which started in 2012, included Cebu as one of the hosts of the regional tournaments.

“CCC has always been supportive of our events, so we conceptualized a match play tournament for Cebu and we plan to do it every year in Cebu,” he said.

The coming event is the third tournament for the PLDT Amateur Golf Series this year.

The next two are the 2016 Philippine Amateur Open Match Play Golf Championship at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club on April 25 to 29 and the Philippine Junior Amateur Open Golf Championship at the Alabang Country Club on April 12 to 15.

Conscolluela said there was a ranking system for the tour, and points were at stake in every tournament. (PNA) RMA/EB/MP/EDS
