599 Injuries in New Year Celeb – DOH
The Department of Health (DOH), as of 6 am Wednesday, has recorded 599 cases of firecracker-related injuries during the New Year festivities.
The health agency said the latest record was 29 percent higher compared to the recorded injuries in the same period last year.
According to the DOH, the highest number of firecracker-related injuries was seen in the National Capital Region, followed by Region I (Ilocos Region).
Moreover, Manila was named as the ‘most dangerous city’ as it manifested the most number of firecracker and fireworks-related injuries.
Children up to 15 years old were the usual victims mostly by firecracker “piccolo”, the DOH said.In another development, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said the number of stray bullet victims has increased sixfold, with figures showing 13 people have been reported injured since December 16, 2013.
The PNP said despite the increase in the records, no one reportedly died in the said incidents.
