(PNA) — A magnitude-5.2 earthquake jolted the province of Cagayan on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In its bulletin, the agency said the tremor occurred at 10:49 a.m. with its epicenter traced 14 kilometers northwest of Calayan in Cagayan.

The town of Sta. Ana, Cagayan felt the quake at Intensity 3.

Phivolcs described an Intensity 3 earthquake as weak, but it is felt by many people indoors, especially those in upper floors of buildings.

It further noted that a vibration like the “passing of a light truck” would be felt, while water containers oscillate and hanging objects swing moderately.

Phivolcs said the temblor, which was tectonic in origin, had a shallow of depth 32 kilometers.

Despite the reported intensity, the agency noted that there was no casualty nor damage reported from the quake.

However, the agency said aftershocks are expected in the affected areas.

The Philippines lies in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 20 to 25 earthquakes per day — mostly imperceptible — are common. (PNA) LAM/CLTC/FRBT-OJT
