4 COVID-19 Vax Brands Approved for Booster Shots
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved 4 different COVID-19 vaccine brands to be used as booster shots and additional shots.
The two-shot vaccines AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Sinovac are approved as booster shots. These vaccines are homologous.
Homologous vaccines are administered as an additional dose from the same manufacture. For example, if an individual received Sinovac, the third shot will also be Sinovac.
Meanwhile, the single-dose Sputnik Light is the fourth vaccine that is approved as a booster shot. This vaccine is heterologous, which means that it can be used as a booster or an additional dose regardless of what COVID-19 vaccine the person received before.
Starting November 17, the administering of the booster shot or third dose will commence for fully-vaccinated healthcare workers. (ASC)
