4.2 Quake Jolts Negros Occidental
(PNA) — A magnitude-4.2 earthquake jolted the province of Negros Occidental on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
In its bulletin, the agency said the tremor occurred at 3:04 a.m. with its epicenter traced 60 kilometers southwest of Hinoba-an in Negros Occidental.
The town of Hinoba-an felt the quake at Intensity 3.
Phivolcs described an Intensity 3 earthquake as weak, but it is felt by many people indoors, especially those in upper floors of buildings.
It further noted that a vibration like the “passing of a light truck” would be felt, while water containers oscillate and hanging objects swing moderately.
Phivolcs said the temblor, which was tectonic in origin, had a shallow depth of 28 kilometers.
Despite of the felt intensity, the agency said there was no casualty or damage reported from the quake.
Phivolcs further noted that aftershocks are not expected as well. (PNA) LAM/CLTC
