Spray, don’t rub. There is an almost unconscious habit of rubbing your wrists together to let the perfume get at its optimal condition, but this could never be more wrong. The friction built up from the rubbing heats up the skin and this produces natural enzymes that change the scent in some way, award-winning perfumer Francis Kurkdjian explained.

To preserve its scent in the way you want it and to ensure the perfume lasts longer, spray on both wrists lightly and do not rub no matter how much you want to. In fact, do nothing at all and just let it sit.

Prime your skin. Rubbing perfume is a no-no. Rubbing petroleum jelly, on the other hand, is a definite yes! The ointment helps the fragrance stick to your skin longer compared to dry skin.

Before spraying on perfume, lather petroleum jelly on your pulse points – that’s your neck, your wrists, inside your elbows, below your midriff, behind your knees, and near your ankles – to make your fragrance last significantly longer. That’s another thing: target warm pulse points to diffuse the scent across your whole body.

Do it after a shower. There’s always a right time for everything and for spraying perfume, the right time is immediately after a shower. Perfumer Marie Salamagne shares that this is because warm, damp skin absorb perfume oils better.
