3 Moderate Quakes Jolt Pangasinan, Batanes and Sorsogon
(PNA) — Three mild earthquakes shook the provinces of Pangasinan, Batanes and Sorsogon on Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology’s (Phivolcs).
In its bulletin, the first quake with a 3.5 magnitude occured at 1:28 a.m. with epicenter traced 20 kilometers (km) northwest of Bolinao in Pangasinan.
The quake which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 57 kilometers.
The second quake with a 4.2 magnitude occured at 3:44 am with epicenter traced 39 km northeast of Prieto Diaz in Sorsogon, which was also felt at Intensity 3.
The quake which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of one kilometer.
The third quake with a 3.1 magnitude occured at 3:55 am with its epicenter traced six kms southeast of Uyugan in Batanes.
The quake which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 22 kilometers.
Phivolcs reported no damages and no expected aftershocks from the three tectonic earthquakes.
The Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 20 to 25 earthquakes per day — mostly imperceptible — are common, Phivolcs said. (PNA) FPV/CLTC/Niriza Mae A. Barquilla/NMAB (OJT)
