3 Moderate Quakes Jolt Davao Oriental, Bohol, Pangasinan
Manila — Mild earthquakes shook the provinces of Davao Oriental, Bohol and Pangasinan on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the first quake with a magnitude of 4.1 occurred at 12:39 p.m.
The epicenter of the quake was traced some 208 kilometers southeast of Sarangani in Davao Oriental.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 33 kilometers.
The second quake with a magnitude 3.6 occurred around 1:42 p.m. with the epicenter traced some 37 kilometers northeast of Tagbilaran City in Bohol.
Phivolcs said that Intensity 4 was felt in Tubigon, Sagbayan and Clarin, Bohol.
Phivolcs described an Intensity 4 as moderately strong and felt generally by people indoors and by some people outdoors. Light sleepers are awakened.
It further noted that a vibration like the “passing of heavy truck. Hanging objects swing considerably. Dinner, plates, glasses, windows and doors rattle while floors and walls of wood framed buildings creak. Standing motor cars may rock slightly.
It added that liquids in containers are slightly disturbed. Water in containers oscillate strongly while rumbling sound may sometimes be heard.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 17 kilometers.
On the other hand, the other tremor with a magnitude of 3.4 happened at 2:56 p.m. Phivolcs said its epicenter was estimated 78 kilometers southwest of Agno in Pangasinan.
Phivolcs said the temblor, which was tectonic in origin, had a shallow depth of 14 kilometers.
Meanwhile, Phivolcs said there was no damage reported from the three tremors.
It added that no aftershocks are expected from these quakes.
The Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 20 to 25 earthquakes per day — mostly imperceptible — are common, Phivolcs said. (PNA) LAM/CLTC
