3 DMDP Studes Join Julie’s Chief Baker Joust
At least three students of this city’s Department of Manpower Development and Placement or DMDP joined in the Julie’s Chief Baker – Student Edition Season 2.
Lynne Neil G. Alicer and Herbert E. Egar both taking Culinary Arts and Dante G. Meñosa taking Commercial Cooking are representing the DMDP in the said competition.
Now on its second season, the competition is program of the Julie’s Franchise Corporation. It is a unique baking show featuring student bakers from different institutions Cebu-wide in a reality program for 9 weeks which is aired on TV 5 at 7:30 to 8AM, Mondays and Fridays from October to December within the Visayas and Mindanao and in Luzon on cable.
The program gives a fantastic opportunity for the students to develop their skills, showcase their talents and learn best practices from fellow participants and the seasoned bakers who served as jurors.
Aside from the exciting prizes at stake for the winners and their schools, the competition also provides an avenue to promote the Culinary Curriculum offered by the participating schools coupled with thrill and excitement of the participants on being on a competitive reality TV show.
In an interview with the BARUGG News, DMDP chief Engr. Ma. Suzanne Ardosa shared that she is happy with how the three DMDP students are doing in the competition, citing that they topped in at least 4 weekly challenge among the participants from other schools.
The DMDP representatives excelled in the Make or Break Ensaymada, Healthy Bread, Loaf Bread and Wild Card weekly challenges. They bested contestants from the Asian College of Technology, Cebu Eastern College, Cebu Technological University Camotes Campus, Cebu Technological University Danao Campus, Golden Success College, Mandaue City College, St. Cecilia’s College, TESDA Tubigon, University of Cebu Main Campus, MGB Cebu, and University of Southern Philippines Foundation.
Ardosa further shared that they are supporting their representatives all throughout the competition. She said that this the first time they joined in the said competition and it helps them to show the skills of their students and promote their culinary arts and commercial cooking programs.
Moreover, aside from culinary arts and commercial cooking, the DMDP also offers other short-term programs accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or TESDA for free such as advance fashion design, cosmetology, bartending, computer operations, food and beverage services, tailoring and dressmaking, housekeeping, refrigeration and air-conditioning, plumbing, computer programming, visual graphics and design and electronics.
