3 Cities, New Leaders
New leaders await to serve the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu after the May 13 elections.
44 clustered precincts in Cebu City had yet to be canvassed at 11 p.m. on Monday, May 13, but incumbent Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña already admitted his defeat against incumbent Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgar Labella.
Former Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama also celebrated the victory as he defeated Mary Ann Delos Santos for the Vice Mayor spot.
Rama garnered 247,059 votes while Delos Santos got only 221,665 votes.
Edgar Labella and Michael Rama will take office on June 30.
Labella gained 250,558 votes while Osmeña got only 233,232 in 715 out of the 759 clustered precincts in the city.
Osmeña expressed his gratitude despite his loss as he posted a statement on his Facebook page.
Raul Del Mar and Rodrigo Abellanosa won as re-electionists to represent Cebu City’s 2 legislative districts.
Meanwhile in the City of Mandaue Rep. Jonas Cortes defeated incumbent Mayor Luigi Quisumbing.
Cortes garnered 101,641 votes while Quisumbing garnered 58,842.
Cortes’ running mate Glenn Bercede will also unseat incumbent Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna.
Emmarie Ouano-Dizon won the election being the congresswoman of the sixth district.
Mandaue City will be a separate district in the 2022 elections and will have its own House representative.
Councilor Junard Chan in Lapu-Lapu City won the mayoral race after defeating Arturo Radaza by almost 20,000 votes.
Chan and his running mate Celsi Sitoy will sit together on June 30.
Incumbent Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza who is on her last term as Mayor, got elected as congresswoman of the Lapu-Lapu City. (MLC)
