3 Cebu Mayors Join LP
● Former One Cebu Mayors of Moalboal, Madridejos and Sta Fe towns are now affiliated with the ruling Liberal Party
Three mayors from One Cebu joined the Liberal Party (LP) Tuesday morning at the party headquarters in Quezon City.
Mayors Salvador de la Fuente of Madridejos, Jose Esgana of Sta Fe, and Innocentes Cabaron of Moalboal took their oath before Liberal Party (LP) leader and Senate President Franklin Drilon in LP headquarters in Quezon City.
Governor Hilario Davide III and other LP leaders in Cebu also went to witness the event. Davide said half of the mayors in the province are reportedly on their side already, leaving One Cebu, the party of former Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, in the minority.
“More than half na ang LP, wa pa ni labot sa tulo ka mayor,” said Davide.
LP is reportedly courting town mayors in the first district who are still with One Cebu.
Political analysts said getting the majority of the mayors to join the LP bandwagon would secure Davide’s post in the Capitol, including the national positions, considering Cebu is a vote-rich province.
