298 Modern PUVs Launch in Cebu
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas (LTFRB)-7 launched 298 new Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) yesterday, July 11.
The launching is part of the national implementation of the PUV Modernization Program by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Part of the 298 modern PUVs were 25 new Electronic Jeepneys (E-jeep), 250 new taxi units and 23 new modernized buses.
The activity was led by Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (PAV) Michael Dino and LTFRB-7 Director Eduardo Montealto, Jr.
A large number of drivers and operators attended the activity to show support on the PUV Modernization Program.
Meawnile, PAV Dino said that this activity marks the change all Filipinos wanted to see.
“This launching of the modernized PUVs is the start of the golden age of Cebu’s transport system. People will be able to enjoy the change they have long been waiting for,” PAV Dino said.
New PUVs have Global Positioning System (GPS), WiFi, dash cams and other modern features and will traverse the northern route from Cebu City to Lapu-Lapu City and Danao City.
Recently, the DOTr in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) launched the “Tsuper Iskolar” program in Cebu to help drivers and operators familiarize the fundamentals of modern PUVs and to also help them acquire livelihoods skills. (MLC)
