The Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force (CPAIFTF) on Sunday confiscated 120 boxes full of ‘Tuloy’ fish or Sardines in the municipal waters of Daanbantayan and San Remigio.

Loy Mandrigal, CPAIFTF head, said they were conducting patrol operations in the area when they saw fishing boat, RAV-1, “engaging in illegal fishing activity” in Barangays Bangkasan and Anapo in San Remigio. Madrigal said the boat was using active gears which is considered illegal under the Fisheries Code.

The said boat had 29 crew on board including an armed security guard.

Two hours later the same patrolling team also sighted another boat, RBS-1, allegedly engaged in illegal fishing not far from the first confiscation. RBS-1 had 17 crew and 148 boxes of ‘Tuloy’ fish.

Madrigal said all fishing boats were also brought for custody.

Authorities are now set to file charges against the crew of the two fishing boats.
