21k Fake Blood Plasma Pockets Grabbed in Punjab
21,700 packets (around 7,600 liters) of fake blood plasma were retrieved by the counter-intelligence department of Bathinda Police. Five persons associated with hospitals were arrested.
When isolated, blood plasma is the largest component in blood. The main function of plasma is to transport nutrients and is essential in easing treatment in diseases as it contains antibodies and proteins.
Police found out that the content of the fake blood plasma are refined oil, soya bean milk, and egg yolk mixed and marketed to Reliance Life Sciences. Police claimed that the institute had paid an advance of Rs 20 lakh to the accused for a batch of 5,000 liters of blood plasma worth at least Rs 1.25 crore.
