2019 Buglasan Festival Highlights 237 Events in NegOr
Negros Oriental is gearing up for this year’s Buglasan Festival celebration with a total of 237 events set on Oct. 14 to 27 at three main venues at Freedom Park, Robinsons Place, and Sidlakang Negros Village in Dumaguete City.
The two week-long festivities will start with an opening salvo concert of ‘Parokya ni Edgar’ on Oct. 14, said Dr. Nichol Elman, co-director of Buglasan Directorate.
The opening will also be attended by Education Secretary Leonor Briones since the first day is usually run or participated in by the Department of Education (DepEd) in the province.
The nightly activities and cultural shows are slated in different parts of the main locations.
Rivermaya and Imago will also join the festival for a back-to-back free concert at Freedom Park in the middle of the week.
The presentation of various festivals of different cities and towns in Negros Oriental is set on Oct. 18 during the Buglasan Festival of Festivals Showdown at the Lamberto Macias Sports Center, and Street Dance Competition at the major city streets of Dumaguete.
Elman said on Oct. 18, which is the third Friday of the month, Malacañang may declare a special non-working holiday for the province as Gov. Roel Degamo and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed a resolution requesting Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to allow the people of Negros Oriental to celebrate and participate in the Buglasan Festival.
Sec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat of the Department of Tourism is also invited to witness the Buglasan’s showdown and street dance as guest of honor.
The event will be followed by an awarding ceremony of Outstanding Oriental Negrense’ and Sidlak NegOrense’ who excelled in competitions nationally as well as in an international setting.
This year’s festivity theme is “Negros Oriental Landscape of Opportunities.”
“This means that Negros Oriental is well-organized and well-developed. The fun starts here in Negros Oriental. Our landscape will serve as an inspiration to all to develop themselves,” explained Elman. (jct/PIA7 Negros oriental)
