2017 Dinagyang Festival Culminates with Ati Tribe Competition
Ten tribes joining the Ati tribe competition of the 2017 Dinagyang Festival showcased their best interpretation of the many facets of Ilonggos’ devotion to Señor Santo Niño, Sunday.
The competition marked the last day of the three-day highlights of the festival that anchors on the theme “Communion of Communities in Señor Santo Niño” and carries the tagline See, Feel, Love.
The competing tribes include Paghidaet, Obreros, Ilonganon, Abiador, Dagatnon, Panayanon, Buntatalanit, Salognon, Pan-ay and Amihan.
Meanwhile, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, in his opening message, attributed the success of the festival, which is now on its 49th year, to the support and cooperation coming from the community.
He cited the strong public-private partnership ensured the success of the city government’s endeavor. Mabilog further emphasized the strong support of his leadership to the various thrusts of the current administration.
Senator Franklin M. Drilon, meantime, pointed out how huge difference in the landscape of the city and province of Iloilo as a result of the strong political leadership in the local level.
Ramon Cua Locsin, president of the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc, said the annual festival has “attracted tourists and investments, generated recognition for Iloilo and created partnerships, and most importantly has showcased Iloilo as a cultural space that supports diversity, craftsmanship, freedom of expression and artistic development.”
Meantime, results of the competition will be announced Sunday evening with the grand champion taking home PHP200,000; first runner-up, PHP175,000; second runner-up, PHP150,000; third runner-up, PHP125,000 and fourth runner-up with PHP100,000.
Other minor awards include best in performance, choreography, music, costume and street dancing. (PNA)JBP/PGLENA/CBF
