The Manila Police District (MPD) said on Friday, July 15, that 20 drug pushers have been killed in an encounter with the police during an anti-drug operations.

MPD director Senior Superintendent Joel Coronel said that these pushers were killed in encounters in the city from July 1 to 10.

A total of 3,160 drug users and 595 drug pushers have surrendered themselves to the authorities, said Coronel.

Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada allocated P1.9 billion for the city’s crime prevention program. He also directed the police to “go all out” in the campaign against illegal drugs.

The MPD director also said that the crime rate in the city has lessened.

“So as you can see, the MPD is proud to announce and inform everyone that the crime rate has declined beginning second semester last year and starting first semester until June this year, and we intend to keep it this way,” said Coronel to the members of the City Peace and Order Council.
