2 Malaysian Students Invented a Smart Bandage That Can Monitor Different Wound Stages
Mohd Fahad Saleem and Nur Liyana Syasya Mohd Zamuri earned the title of ‘Regional Winners’ for The 3M Inspire Challenge, beating over 121 teams across Southeast Asia with their smart bandage that is capable of monitoring the progress of a wound.
“We came up with the idea of Smart Bandages to equip users with a product that can better monitor different stages of the wound healing process and provide an optimum condition for the skin and tissues to heal so that they can continue on with their day-to-day lives without worrying about their wounds,” Mohd Fahed Saleem explained, stating that adhesive bandages are common items in most households.
It was a four month-long battle between different teams from Southeast Asian countries that include Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam with the two Malaysian students earning the award in the end with their smart bandage as the winning entry and clinching USD$3,000 worth in cash prizes.
The 3M Inspire Challenge is a regional case challenge created by 3M, a global science company, where students with ideas for advancement, sustainability, technology, and innovation exhibit their inventions to make a more positive world and to add in the expansion to 3M’s value for its commerce and clients.
