2 Cebu Towns Seek DENR 7 Final Say on Boundary for Canyoneering Activities
The towns of Badian and Alegria in southern have passed a joint resolution asking the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 for its final word on their boundary as they share a river used for canyoneering activities.
In the joint resolution, these two towns requested the DENR 7 to conduct a survey in the area, including the river that flows from Badian to Alegria and back to Badian.
Canlaob River goes from Barangay Sulsugan in Badian town, down to Barangay Compostela in Alegria town, and ends in Kawasan Falls in Barangay Matutinao, Badian.
Engr. Tito Cavalida, Alegria public information officer, said the DENR 7 has not yet issued any conclusive statement on its survey on the boundary between his town and Badian town.
Cavalida refuted Badian officials’ claims that of the seven canyoneering jump stations, four are in Badian and only three in Alegria.
Cavalida said all seven jump stations are in Alegria.
Cebu Goverbor Hilario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale have met with the two contending parties and asked mayors of both towns to submit their position papers.
Davide said there will be a status quo as they consider the idea of co-management of the two towns for canyoneering activities. (PNA) FPV/EB/EDS
