19 New Jail Guards for CPDRC

Published

on

As part of the Cebu Provincial Government’s effort to change the image of jail guards into a professional one, the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) recently presented 19 newly trained jail guards.

According to CPDRC Consultant Marco Toral, this initiative is included in his consultancy efforts and is an integral part of Warden Romeo Manansala’s leadership.

Toral and the jail guards who recently graduated from a one-month rigid training course are grateful to the administration of Gov. Hilario Davide III for the chance given them to be part of CPDRC’s new image.

Aside from sporting the respectable-looking white side wall haircut, the young men that Toral trained to handle a hostage-taking incident in jail with real unloaded guns are also licensed criminologists and graduates from some of Cebu’s leading criminology schools.

Training exercises took three hours a day.

One of the jail guards is an ex-inmate who spent 11 years in jail for a rape case. Timoteo Lucernas of Camotes hopes to be a good model to CPDRC inmates and to help the Capitol as a good jail watchman.

The CPDRC consultant himself, a former city jail inmate of seven years, encouraged the trainees to be honest and to set the example for the rest of the guards to follow.

The 19 are actually replacements for older jail guards who retired in August this year. Toral said they will be on watchman status for three months.
