1,714 Job Seekers Join Labor Day 2019
Around 1,714 job seekers joined the Labor Day Job Fairs on Wednesday, May 1 hoping to find a job hosted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-7).
The job fair entitled “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan” is part of the 117th Labor Day Celebration in the country.
DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome Siaton said that there were 18,000 plus available jobs waiting for job seekers, both local and overseas.
Siaton explained that the employment rate in the region increased to 94.8 percent in the first quarter of 2019 compared to last year’s 92.2 percent.
She pointed out that the “Build-build-build” program of the national government played a major role in the increase of employment rate.
During the four job fairs hosted by DOLE on Wednesday, there were 1,714 registered applicants and 1,150 were qualified on specific jobs.
Fifty-five (55) job seekers were luckily hired on the spot, 333 were subject to final interview, 39 were referred to the Department of Trade and Industry while 50 were referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development
Authority (TESDA) for certain skills training.
Participating industries were mostly from the manufacturing, malls and health industry.
On the other hand, Siaton said that 26,000 contractual workers in Region 7 were regularized on 2018 and most of them were in Cebu.
Siaton also urged all employers to make efforts to regularize their employees or they will face sanctions. (MLC)
