134 Houses Scorched in Lower Kamputhaw Fire
More than 200 families were left homeless as a fire blazed houses in Purok 3, Lower Kamputhaw, Cebu City on August 4, 2018.
A fire alarm was received by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) at 3:05 in the afternoon. After 48 minutes it was raised to second alarm prompting all north district fire trucks to respond.
In 4:05 the alarm was raised to third alarm and all fire trucks in the city were deployed.
At 5:12 pm the fire was declared under control.
According to Nagiel Bañacia, OIC, Cebu CIty Disaster Risk Management Office, About 134 houses were affected by the fire leaving about 900 individuals homeless on the aftermath of the fire.
The fire was said to have started in the house of Roxanne Limbaga but the cause of the fire is yet to be determined by fire investigators.
The damages resulted from the fire was pegged to be P900,000.
Breakdown of houses and persons affected:
- 134 houses damage
- 7 houses partially burned
- 227 families affected
- 905 individuals
- 40 house sharers
- 53 house renters
- 1 lodger
The fire victims are now temporarily evacuated in Purok 8 gymnasium and Kamputhaw Elementary School. Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS) and the Cebu CIty Disaster Risk Management Office (CCDRMO) were deployed to assist the victims. (ASC)
