All 132 Local Government Units (LGUs) in Region 7 implemented the Family Development Session (FDS).

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – 7 Regional Director Rebecca Geamala complimented the LGUs who passed a resolution empowering FDS in their jurisdiction.

“We commend all the LGUs who passed a local policy either an Executive Order or a Sangguniang Bayan resolution in strengthening FDS in their locality,” said Geamala

Geamala explained that for instance, the FDS module is about health and nutrition, the LGU should invite a local nutritionist-dietitian for the session.

On the other hand, if the FDS module is about fire prevention, personalities from Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) should be invited.

If the module is about peace and order, the local police will be given the chance to lead the session.

The FDS team could be personalities from Local/Municipal Advisory Committee, City/Municipal Action Team, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other stakeholders.

“We further encourage all LGUs to strengthen the FDS team so that we can provide other interventions to our 4Ps partner-beneficiaries. Through the FDS, we can impart to them a valuable information which they can use for their family and this will benefit the whole community,” said Geamala.

The FDS is part of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

The goal of the FDS is to help parents to be more aware of their responsibilities like in health and nutrition, education and psycho-social needs of the youth, to develop positive family values and to strengthen the relationship of married couples.

The FDS distributed a package of learning modules containing the Concepts and Design of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Responsible Parenthood and The Family and the Community.

It also has enhanced modules and it tackles about Active Citizenship, Family and Community-based Disaster Preparedness, Hunger and Food Insecurity Mitigation, Child Sexual Abuse Prevention, Positive Discipline and Youth Development Sessions. (MLC)
