130-Feet Divine Mercy Shrine to Rise in Consolacion Soon
A 130-feet Archdiocesan Shrine of Divine Mercy will soon rise in Barangay Garing in the town of Consolacion in northern Cebu.
The said shrine will feature an adoration chapel, adoration spring, viewing decks, retreat house, Noah’s ark, garden of Eden, station of the cross and other significant religious locations.
The shrine will be constructed in a 6-hectare lot donated by the family of former Consolacion Mayor Avelino Gungob Sr.
“Ni ingon akong mga anak nga tay, bisag tuod nga di man ka matawag ug datu, di sad ta matawag nga pobre nabuhi man gyud ta, naa man gyud tay property, i-uli ta na sa ginoo ug dili na lang nato na pabayra (My children said that we are not rich nor poor but still we have lived a good life. They said that they will donate the property for free in
honor of God),” Gungob, Sr. said.
The shrine will also be part of the preparations for the upcoming quincentennial celebration of Christianity in the Philippines on 2021.
“When we look at the divine mercy then we know nga mao na gyud ni ang Santo Niño nga miabot kanato nga atong gi pangga (When we look at the divine mercy then we know that this is the Santo Niño we have always loved). We grow in faith and people know that this Niño certainly has grown then ang iyang message all over the world is mercy,” said Most Rev. Jose Palma, Archbishop of Cebu. (MLC)
