104 Students to Compete in Balagtas Day Poetry, Essay Writing Contests

A total of 104 students from various schools in the country will be participating in the 230^th Balagtas Day Filipino poetry and essay writing contests.

Organized by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF), it will be held on April 2-4 at Orion Elementary School, Orion town, Bataan.

“We selected students who are in Grades 7-11 as contestants. This is in line with Proclamation No. 964 series of 1997 which declares April 2 every year as Francisco ‘Balagtas’ Baltazar Day,” KWF said in a statement.

April 2 marks the birthday anniversary of Baltazar who is regarded as the “Prince of Tagalog of Poets.”
