Around 10,000 seedlings successfully planted in different areas of Cebu City on Saturday, October 5.

The tree planting activity dubbed as “Kakahuyan alang sa Kaugmaon” was led by Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella together with the employees of Cebu City hall, civic groups and other volunteers.

The first area was at the vicinity of Welcome Hill of the South Road Properties (SRP). After the successful activity in SRP, the group moved to the Sapangdaku riverbank and finally to Barangay Taptap.

Trees planted were narra, bamboo and fire trees.

It was known that the environment aspect is one of Labella’s priority and he also revealed that they plan to plant three million seedlings before his term ends on 2020.

Labella added that in line with this, a special task force called Cebu City Stewards will be in-charged of everything. They will be the one to monitor and maintain the trees.

Meanwhile, Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) head John Dacua said that the seedlings they used during the tree planting activity were donated by various private establishments who also showed full support on the campaign towards better environment. (MLC)
